1. Give them some space
Ferrets are avid climbers and love to leap and bound around their cages. You will want to get them a cage big enough to allow them to do so. Often you can find great prices on large cages like this in smaller pet stores. Try to find one that is at least bi-leveled (two levels) so your ferret can scurry up and down as he pleases.
2. Keep Your Ferrets Clean
Keeping your ferret clean can sometimes be an arduous job. However it is truly worth it. They will smell far less worse, and if yours still has it s glands, then you will know how helpful this can be.
A good way to wash them will be in a basin of some sort. I guess you could compare it to washing a baby. Use either specialized shampoo made just for ferrets (preferred) or you can just pick up some shampoo that will not sting their eyes. Johnson and Johnson has a huge line of products just for that.
3. Teach Your Ferret To Use A Litter box
Like cats, ferrets can easily be taught how to use a litter box. In fact, there are many products out there to teach you how to do just that. A simple way is to place him in the box whenever you see him start to “do his duty”.

4. Play gentle!
Ferrets are fairly robusque animals, but they still shouldn t be rough housed because they are so small. As I m sure you know, they love to run around, in, and through things and should be allowed to do so. When you pick them up, be gentle and hold them softly. They will appreciate it, and you run much less of a risk of getting the pet angry and therefore getting scratched.
